The Hobby Area District is excited to welcome Mini Murals tours, a project that uses public traffic signal boxes as mural backdrops to showcase local Houston artists. Maps and information for self-guided tours are available online. Bus tours are coming very soon! We encourage residents and visitors to the Hobby area to check out the twenty unique art installations throughout the District.

The Hobby area is a vibrant, diverse part of Houston with 20 mini murals of our own (just as diverse as we are). Ranging from aviation themes to bayou wildlife, the Hobby District’s murals reflect the area’s character and defining features. Get to know some of the local artists whose work is featured in our neighborhood:

Alex Arzu
Being the youngest person to study with renowned sculptor Luis Jiménez, as well as the youngest person to be accepted to the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain, Alex “Zu” Arzu is a versatile artist and expert in visual art, digital art, body art, and structural art. Currently he has a private studio in East Downtown Houston pursuing a successful art career in body art, contemporary art, illustrations, and murals. In addition, guest lectures and conducts workshops for continuing education for artists in the Houston area.

Jessica Rice
Jessica Rice is a Houston artist with a soft spot for oddities and neglected things. A mother of three little girls and a teacher, she draws inspiration from the honesty and silly freedom of the children in her life, always keeping her connected to the boundless creativity of her own childhood.
