The board of directors of the Hobby Area Management District today (May 17, 2023) approved funding for 30 automatic license plate reader cameras to be located strategically throughout the district to help locate crime suspects and individuals for whom arrest warrants have been issued.
The cameras, supplied by Flock Safety, will be placed along relatively high-traffic thoroughfares in the District and automatically alert police when they capture images of license plates, and/or other vehicle characteristics, associated with suspected or previously charged criminals.
The use of the cameras in other Houston management districts has led to several arrests in high-profile cases.
Funded by annual assessments on the values of commercial properties, the Hobby District’s widespread public safety efforts also include paying for supplementary patrol shifts in the area by Houston Police Department officers and Precinct 2 constable’s deputies.
