On August 13, 2020, HAD Board Chair Danny Perkins joined Mayor Sylvester Turner, Council Member Robert Gallegos, Solid Waste Director Harry Hayes, and Marc Eichenbaum, director of the mayor’s homeless initiatives, at a cleanup at Bellfort and the Gulf Freeway where Mayor Turner announced plans to address public health risks associated with homeless encampments. Turner said the city would continue the COVID-19 cleanups through the end of the year.
