The Hobby Area District board of directors approved funding on Wednesday (June 21) to add two more Precinct 2 constable’s deputies to its supplementary public safety force along the area’s commercial corridors.

The addition brings the Precinct 2 patrol contract program to a total of six deputies.

In addition, the District continues to fund overtime patrols by 10 or more Houston Police officers who would otherwise be off-duty.

Those deputies’ and officers’ work supplements the usual services their agencies would provide to the area regardless of whether the District pursued its public safety initiative.

The District funds the initiative as part of its mission under state law to promote economic development within its boundaries, believing that extra safety measures are a key factor in attracting and maintaining business activity.

The District’s revenue comes solely from annual assessments on commercial property.
