The Broadway Shopping Center, just north of Bellfort Avenue, hosts more than a dozen specialty shops tailored to budget-conscious consumers.
Brixmor Property Group, which owns and operates the center and many others like it across the country, does best when its tenants are in the spotlight. But with its website providing details of leasing at their properties, several of which are in the Hobby Area, the District is pleased to highlight the contribution the property management company is making to the community.
The mostly tan storefronts at the open-air shopping center at 8201 Broadway Street feature a diverse mix of penny-pinching regional and national tenants, including Blink Fitness, El Ahorro Supermarket, Family Dollar and Melrose Family Fashions. There are also thrifty options at a Cricket phone store and AMTEX Auto Insurance, which sits in a booth in the parking lot and advertises $39-a-month liability coverage.
More than 24,000 people live within a 3-mile radius of the Broadway Shopping Center and more than 26,000 vehicles pass by daily. It’s one of Houston’s densest markets.
Blink Fitness, a colorful and inviting gym, has tons of space and top-notch equipment with different membership plans beginning at $10 a month. It’s open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
The truly frugal shopper should head to El Ahorro Supermarket next door. It’s name means “savings.” Google reviews by regular customers show that most people go for “Great prices, food of great quality and great service.” There is a meat counter for all of your barbecue needs. Several reviewers shop here regularly for low prices on specialty items and fresh produce.
Past the supermarket is the Cricket Wireless store, which advertises cell phone plans to fit your lifestyle.
“Cricket offers unlimited talk, text, and data access, and no annual contract for cell phone service,” the company advertises.
Next door, Greenland Pharmacy supports the Mi Doctor Clinic two doors down for medical needs, and dental supply needs for Galaxia Dental, a kid-friendly dentist office in the same row.
Galaxia Dental boasts a state-of-the-art arcade and a high definition, surround sound movie theater room catering to kids. Friendly staff and doctors treat patients from age six months and up, and they accept patients through Medicaid, CHIP & most other forms of insurance.
Situated between the medical and dental facilities, Charming Nails is the locals’ “go-to place” for pedicures and lashes.
In the middle of the shopping center, a Family Dollar beckons with the mystique of what treasures might be found week after week. Since Family Dollar has rotating stock, there’s always a deal on something new.
Melrose Family Fashions anchors the south end of the shopping center, with its wide collections of clothes for men, women and children, along with electronics and home goods. It’s a modern department store that prioritizes economical brands.
At the end of the shopping center, Sun Washateria features large and extra-large washers and dryers for big loads and hard-to-wash items, like comforters. They also wash & fold if you’re short on time and need to take a chore off your to-do list.
In the middle of the parking lot, a Watermill Express offers discounted rates on bulk water or ice.
Standing alone in the parking lot, a Pizza Hut caps off the walking tour, with regularly advertised bargains on its trademark Italian-American cuisine.
