BACK TO CAMPUS at HCC CENTRAL AND SOUTH

More face-to-face classes at HCC this summer, fall

On-campus learning is returning and expanding at HCC Central.
HCC is offering significantly more on-campus courses in summer and fall 2021 as a result of improving COVID-19 vaccination rates and a decline in the number of new virus infections and hospitalizations in the greater Houston area.
While plans to reopen all HCC campuses are still being developed, HCC administration has indicated that at least 30 percent of all academic classes and most lab-based courses will resume a face-to-face delivery mode for summer sessions, which start June 7.
By the start of the fall semester on August 23, the number of face-to-face courses is expected to rise to 60 percent.
“We are very happy to be able to welcome students back to Central and South Campuses again,” says Dr. Muddassir Siddiqi, President of HCC Central. “We have all waited a long time to get to this pivotal moment.”
Social distancing will still be encouraged. Mask wearing and following other safety precautions will be an individual’s choice. For more information, please go to hccs.edu.

Story of Success

Antonio Wade is a dedicated construction manager for Perry Homes in the Houston area. And he absolutely loves what he does.
He was introduced to Perry Homes through a partnership between Houston Community College and Work Texas during a class on home foundations, taught by a Perry Homes employee.
“That night, I was blown away by this individual’s professionalism, content knowledge in the field of construction, and the way they represented Perry Homes,” says Wade.
“I immediately wanted to be a part of the Perry Homes family because of how well this employee represented the company and its rich history as a residential builder,” he says.
The Residential Construction Trades program at Work Texas/Gallery Furniture is where Wade got his start. Wade completed the program and now works for Perry Homes.
“He was featured and spotlighted in Perry Homes’ newsletter and on the company’s LinkedIn page,” says George Davis, program manager, HCC Continuing Education – Construction Trades. “He is a success.”

A new name for a familiar HCC Central Building

Be sure to mark your calendars for a late-August event.
Central’s Learning Hub Science Building (LHSB) will soon be known as the Dr. William W. Harmon Building, named for the late, longtime, distinguished president whose impact on Central and HCC was significant and enduring.
Join us at HCC Central, 9:30 a.m., August 24, as HCC unveils a special plaque inside the learning hub and officially renames the distinctive, curved-glass building (completed during Dr. Harmon’s presidency) in his honor.

President’s Corner

Muddassir Siddiqi, Ed.D.
President, HCC Central
Thank you for reading this edition of HCC Central Courier. Our staff works hard to bring you great news and events taking place at HCC and Central and South Campuses.
Again, we are thrilled to be resuming our face-to-face course delivery modality. Online learning is a great tool, but we know that many of our students crave the ability to learn from their professors without benefit of Teams, Webex or Zoom.
Feedback? I’m listening.
Email me at: [email protected]
Sincerely,
Muddassir Siddiqi, Ed.D.
