Everything Seafood and Wings, a new restaurant on Almeda Genoa, may not be all things to all people. But that’s not for lack of trying.
Owner/operator Drew Shaw put up a bandstand with a sound system in one corner of the business to accommodate live music, poetry nights, company lunches, gospel brunches on Sundays, karaoke on Fridays, book signings, baby showers and, if you’re interested in tying the knot, weddings!
Use of the stage is free for customers, with Shaw saying he just wants people to come and enjoy the food.
“I want people to know that this is a family-oriented business, and we love our customers here,” he said. “When people know that, they will be comfortable. This is a place where family can come and dine in and bring their children.”
The one-page menu opens with specialty baked potatoes, seafood nachos and seafood platters with different configurations of shrimp and catfish. It leads to items such as Creole Deluxe Platter and Drew’s Big Bowl.
The wings can be tossed in BBQ, Buffalo sauce, lemon pepper, garlic parmesan, mango habanero or sweet chili. There are also hamburgers, po-boys and fish sandwiches to be had. And don’t forget pork chops, you can get three with fries for $14.99.Sides include fries, corn, red beans & rice, house salad, green beans, mac ‘n cheese, potato salad and hush puppies. You can also add shrimp or wings to any entrée. And there’s etouffee!
Shaw, who was raised in a family of restaurateurs, opened his eatery last year in the middle of the pandemic and is still working hard to get the word out.
“This year has been tough for probably most small businesses, and I haven’t gotten any loans. None of that,” he said. “It’s strictly been a faith walk and we are in it to win it. The only day we’re closed is Mondays. Other than that, we’re open and ready to serve.”
Shaw does not serve alcohol, but he allows patrons to bring in their own. Unlike other restaurants that charge a “corkage fee” if you bring in beer or wine, Shaw does not charge anything.
“Bring your champagne and celebrate Gospel Brunch or bring a six-pack to drink while enjoying a good meal and the game,” he said.
The atmosphere is like your grandmother’s house when she’s cooking up a storm and the whole family is laughing together and the music goes on late into the night.
It’s comfort food when you’re in a cozy mood.
