Pick Your Park: A Roundup of Local Green Space

The Sims Bayou habitat attracts a variety of wildlife and bird species as well as an abundance of trees and plants. With seven local parks, more than 80 acres of total green space and almost 17 miles of trails and paths, the Hobby Area District has lots of opportunities for residents to get outside and enjoy Houston’s natural beauty. Get out there and start exploring.


Adult Exercise Station at Andover Park


ANDOVER PARK | 6301 Nunn
Located near the Harbach-Ripley Neighborhood Center and Gregg Elementary School, Andover Park has several lighted sports fields (baseball and soccer) as well as picnic tables, swing sets and plenty of trees for shade. In addition to playgrounds for children, there is an exercise station for adults.

CARTER PARK | 7000 Santa Fe
Carter Park is located on the banks of Sims Bayou near Mt. Caramel Academy and features multiple swing sets as well as paved picnic table areas. There is also a softball field and a short walking trail that winds through the playground area.


Bayou Trail at Robert C. Stuart Park

ROBERT C. STUART PARK | 7250 Bellfort
Nestled between Bellfort and Sims Bayou, Robert C. Stuart Park is one of the larger parks in the Hobby area. Aside from scenic views, the park offers relaxed nature trails with public water fountains and plenty of picnic tables. Reviews rate this park as a great place to take your dog and enjoy secluded greenery.


Located in the Garden Villas subdivision, Garden Villas Park boasts well-maintained bathrooms as well as a jungle gym with slides. There is also a covered pavilion area with picnic tables and a large parking lot.

DOW PARK | 7942 Rockhill
Lighted basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields… you name it, Dow Park’s got it. Paved walking paths circle the sports fields and playground area. There are lots of trees for shade and plenty of picnic areas to choose from.

STEWART PARK | 6700 Reed Rd
Updated in 2004, Stewart Park features a jungle gym and swing set, paved walking trail, park benches, picnic tables and grills, and disabled accessibility ramps. A pavilion picnic area provides shade to enjoy the sloping view of the bayou.


Playground at Reveille Park

REVEILLE PARK | 7700 Oak Vista
Another one of the larger local parks, Reveille Park offers a public swimming pool, large playground, extensive trails with access to Sims Bayou, basketball courts and a multipurpose field. There are also plenty of bike racks, picnic tables, benches, and the park is well-lit.
