Meet our new director of communications, public affairs and support services

The Hobby Area Management District is pleased to announce its newest staff member, Gabby Dirden. She will join us next month as the director of communications, public affairs and support services.

Gabrielle “Gabby” Dirden, comes to the Hobby Area Management District from the Houston Airport System, where she served as the Passenger Experience Manager for William P. Hobby Airport. In this role, her primary objective was to manage all human and technical resources to provide a high level of customer service to the traveling public. Gabby’s role as the primary contact for Customer Service also included managing the Volunteer Program Coordinator, Ambassadors and Customer Property Recovery Division.

In light of Houston being selected as the host city for Super Bowl LI in 2017, Gabby was appointed as a manager of the Houston Airport System Super Bowl LI Planning Committee to facilitate a collaborative effort between the City of Houston, the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee and regional partners. This union was forged to provide the citizens of Houston and traveling passengers with a safe, successful and dynamic Super Bowl LI experience. Gabby is responsible for creating a master concept of operations blueprint that details the airside operations, landside operations, safety and security, maintenance and marketing and customer service strategies for HAS Super Bowl LI planning. As a result of this position, she also serves on the City of Houston Super Bowl Traffic and Transportation Committee as well as the Communications Committee.

Prior to these positions, she held roles as Community, Customer Relations and Events Coordinator at the Houston Airport System as well as the Customer Service Manager for the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer Team (ORAT). The latter is where she directed and managed all aspects of customer service initiatives and activities for the $156M HOU International Concourse and associated projects. She was responsible for conducting tests of critical customer functions, systems, and processes in the FIS facility by simulating the “real world” FIS operations to ensure the successful commissioning of the facility and standardizing methodology and service level measures for the nearly 12 million passengers traveling through William P. Hobby Airport.

Prior to Gabby’s tenure with the Houston Airport System, she worked for the Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, Georgia. She held rotating positions in the Corporate and Governmental Affairs, Product Marketing, and Event and Public Relations Departments. It was in Atlanta, Georgia where Ms. Dirden obtained her degree from Spelman College, with a Bachelors in Political Science and a minor in Spanish. There she honed in on her love of event production and public relations not only in the private, but public sector. She is also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt in strategy and process improvement.

Gabby is a native of Houston, Texas and describes herself as a true Southern foodie. She attends South Union Missionary Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and spending quality time with her family and friends. Additionally, she enjoys speaking with young students in the local Houston Community regarding career and educational development.
